Loving GETBACK by Little Brother

Man...I think that Little Brother's new cd, GETBACK is their best work to date! I ANXIOUSLY waited for it to come out, and man....I am NOT disappointed. I've heard a couple of cats complain that it's far too short, having only 11 tracks, but honestly, I wish that more people would do what they did. I'm TIRED of buying cds w/22 tracks....only 4 of them being worth listening to. In fact, I'd say that all 11 tracks are creatures of substance...existing beautifully independent of each other, yet harmoniously bound together in their quality (aint I a verbose bastich? LOL). Now, not wishing to dick-ride (no homo), but Phonte, once again, gives ample evidence that he TRULY is one of the most clever and talented cats in hip hop today. Not only does he deliver an articulate w/o being over-your-head type flow, but he also provides vocals throughout the cd. And Rapper Big Pooh seems to almost be on par with Phonte on this one. Despite not having 9th Wonder's production on the whole album, the beats are BANGIN'! The other producers are cats that produce for the Justus League, and it's good that these cats are getting some shine too...because they are NICE with it. Now, I've even heard a couple of underground-loving folks who didn't approve of their choice of Lil Wayne as one of the features on the track "Breaking My Heart" (me being one of them), but honestly his verse is cool, and it doesn't seem that far out of place. The album is loaded with witty songs that you absolutely can not sit still listening to like "Extrahard" and "Step It Up". I honestly think it's the best album of the year...which is a pretty bold statement considering this is the year Common and Kanye dropped some certified bangers. The sad part is that even though magazines such as the Source and XXL have given it it's due props (but still denied it the elusive "CLASSIC" label that Lil Kim received.....uugghh), Rolling Stone gave it 2 1/2 stars....saying that 9th Wonder left for greener pastures (not true; he did produce a song on the album), and that the beats sound like they were made by someone trying to clone his sound. I guess I should expect no less from a mainstream mag that hasn't been relevant to those who appreciate true artistry rather than mainstream trash since its inception. Nonetheless, Little Brother's album is a CLASSIC joint, start to finish, and is DEFINITELY worth picking up (and go buy it...authentic music like this needs real support, you mofos)!

Great first post. I'll take your recommendation and add another thanks for asking us all to support good music - we can only make an impact with our wallets - hopefully the trend towards quality music will continue. I haven't heard any of this, but I will.

I'll add you to my blogrool. Promise to keep on posting?

The page won't let me sign in under my wordpress account - I'm glad I kept the blogger account active.

Nice start, Marky Mark! I guess I'll have to check these Little Brother cats out. I'm mad though, cuz you were doubtin' my boy Lil Wayne could do it up on their track. That dude may be ugly as all hell but he can rhyme his little ugmo ass off!

Peace Brother,

Aaaah...I see that you've FINALLY given birth to a new post. How about that?

At any rate, I'm going to have to go with your review and pick this up - I notice that the album cover has a definite EPMD "Strictly Business" motif going on. Good look!

Then there's this: "I'm mad though, cuz you were doubtin' my boy Lil Wayne could do it up on their track. That dude may be ugly as all hell but he can rhyme his little ugmo ass off."

*Shaking my head* Tulip, Tulip, Tulip.

Peace folx,

Thanks all for checking me out.

Jali, I PROMISE to keep posting, and thanks for your commitment to at least checking these guys out. I have a hard time believing that you'll regret it.

Tulip, I'm a lil shocked that you haven't peeped them before, but I think you'll appreciate them, and prolly want to listen to some of their old stuff too. I have all of it, so please feel free to ask. And as far as Wayne goes, I'm a little lukewarm on him. He is a gifted rapper, but I just don't like a lot of the things he embraces. But his rapping with one of my faovrite groups doesn't hurt his status with me in the least. LOL!

ACT, I toldja I'd post! I toldja! I toldja! LOL! Pick the album up, and you can tell me how right I was later! :-D
