Cracked.com's Batman....Tone it down....

Earlier this week, I was told, by a friend and coworker, that I maybe addicted to both blogging and reading blogs. I told her that she's prah'li right, and I'd stop before I go blind. I lied. Thus, I'd like to end the year with a Bat-spoof! Happy New Year, people! Let's get it in in 2010!

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths

Ooh! Since I was a fan of the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies dvd (if you haven't watched it yet, go do so now and give me a full report on it), I CAN NOT WAIT to see this one. Looks like DC will score another W with this one!

Stevie Wonder's Tribute to Michael - The Way You Make Me Feel

Michael's gone, and things just don't quite feel right anymore. In tribute to Michael, at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th Anniversary, Stevie can't even maintain his composure when singing his rendition of The Way You Make Me Feel. The saddest thing to me is that in death, Michael doesn't get to see the outpouring of love and adoration that his friends, family, and fans have unleashed since his passing, which is so very sad b/c it was one of the chief things in his life that he yearned for. R.I.P. MJ!

P.S. As I was a BIG MJ fan, I don't have any idea either when I'll, if ever, stop posting random things about him. Just sit back and enjoy, like I do.

Dear Debra - A Letter to BET

Yo...I've been checkin for Jasiri X for a minute, and I love what the brother is doing. He's using Hip Hop as a vehicle for enlightenment, and showcasing what a little creativity, honesty, and intelligence could be like in Hip Hop. This vid is a letter to Debra Lee of BET. Check it out and enjoy!

Saigon - Fatherhood

Due to the continuous pushing back of his album's release date, beef w/a million plus rappers, and his label woes, Saigon's buzz has gone from volcano-hot to simmering. However, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more talented emcee who's consistently making music this good. This song pulled a few personal heart-strings for me, and I loved it so much that I had to post it. I know he's a rapper, and he's trying to get money in the game like a LOT of others, but I'll continue to be a fan as long as he continues to generate real, honest, and poignant music. Keep doing your thing, Sai!

Stuff like this is EXACTLY why iFux w/Dallas Penn! Before today, I had never heard of these dudes, but after doing my daily blog perusal, I came across these cats on Dallas' page. DOPE! Thanks again, DP!

Are You Aware of Domestic Violence

I saw this while visiting Reina's spot, and had to repost it. The numbers are scary, and are a compelling argument to do your part. I've begun by reposting this. What will you do?

(There are 543 names listed of women & children who have lost their lives to domestic violence. Why aren’t you as pissed as me?)

It’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month. (Obama declared it.) I also know it’s Breast Cancer month, but everyone seems to be acknowledging that. I’d rather discuss the one that’s closer to my heart.

As I stated before, the fight against Domestic Violence is my passion. Outside of my family, friends, & him, nothing is more important. Unfortunately, my bill collectors seem to be passionate about monies owed; therefore, I have to go do some work (this is why I’ve been AWOL for the past 2 weeks), but I did want to stop by and share the following with you.

◦Nearly one in every four women are beaten or raped by a partner during adulthood.
◦1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men have experienced an attempted or completed rape.
◦Three women are killed by a current or former intimate partner each day in America, on average.
◦Over 22 percent of women and 7.4 percent of men surveyed, reported being physically assaulted by a current or former partner in their lifetime.
◦Approximately 2.3 million people each year in the United States are raped and/or physically assaulted by a current or former spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend. Women who were physically assaulted by an intimate partner averaged 6.9 physical assaults per year by the same partner.
◦Approximately 37% of women seeking injury-related treatment in hospital emergency rooms were there because of injuries inflicted by a current or former spouse/partner.
◦Women are at an increased risk of harm shortly after separation from an abusive partner.
◦Approximately 15.5 million children are exposed to domestic violence every year.
◦Men exposed to physical abuse, sexual abuse, and adult domestic violence as children were almost 4 times more likely than other men to have perpetrated domestic violence as adults, according to a large study.
◦Incest accounts for half of all sexual abuse cases.
◦Children that are exposed to violence are more likely to attempt suicide, abuse drugs and alcohol, run away from home, engage in teenage prostitution, and commit sexual assault crimes.
◦Girls and young women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence.
*Statistics taken from National Network to End Domestic Violence*

I will write another post on this soon, but I didn’t want another day to pass without acknowledging this month and my begging you & you to DO SOMETHING!

DO volunteer at a shelter this month. DO donate. DO serve. DO keep your hands to yourself. DO dial 911. STOP putting it out of your month as if it could never happen to you. You’ll want someone to help you. Just. DO SOMETHING!

Please visit The Domestic Violence Awareness Project for more information. And for men looking to aid, please visit A Call To Men.

Another reason why Mos Def is the Mos Def

Man...Mos continues to evolve in hip-hop b/c he STILL listens. He's as big a fan as any of us, and he adulation for his peers can actually be a tool enabling him to continue to grow artistically. Peep how much he digs MF Doom. (it's been said that the MF is for Metal Fingers...I like that). Enjoy!

Batman - The Dark Knight motion comic

All who know me know that I am a HUGE Batman fan. What can I say? Batman was my first word. LOL! Anywho, I found this while looking at motion comics on the tube, so enjoy!

Happy Belated, MJ!!!

Yesterday was Michael Jackson's born-day, and I missed posting something. I felt I should; it's the least I could do for one of my childhood heroes. I found this tribute vid that someone made featuring a bunch of his video scenes w/some of his leading ladies to one of my personal MJ faves, "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" ft. Sadiah Garrett. RIP MJ.

Vince Carter Flight School

Though his best years are behind him, and he was never quite able to ascend into MJ's shoes, Vince Carter is probably still the all-time meanest dunker to ever do it. His performance in the All-Star Dunk Contest almost single-handedly revived the popularity of the event for the years that followed. Being a fan, I hope he does big things (i.e. Championhsip) in Orlando. It'd be great if he got one. Anyway, enjoy.

Origins of the Moonwalk?

I'm sure Michael received influence from some of these videos, but as I understand it, he was actually taught to moonwalk by Marcel and Jeffrey Daniel from SHALAMAR. Anywho, the man was smart in that he was able to take elements from other performers, incorporate them into what he did, and essentially make them his own. VERY interesting video. 3 mos. in a post-Michael Jackson world, and it sucks that he's not here to feel the love that he longed for for so long. RIP MJ.

Oh yeah...enjoy the vid.

Eat Dat Watermelon?

Yo...this is suppossed to be satire, but honestly, it offends even me. I understand what the brothers were trying to convey. I'd hope that Hip Hop is scared straight...but somehow, I doubt it.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson - The King of Pop 1958- 2009

Yesterday was a very trying day for me. I've been a fan of Michael Jackson for as long as I can remember, and the news of his death struck me like an iron-clad fist. I am deeply saddened; it is a pain reminiscent of that which I felt when I lost my brothers. It TRULY angers me that the media has spent the last few years picking one of the greatest entertainers of our generation apart. Many of his problems developed as a result of the attention that they showered him with since he was 5 yrs. old. We praised his talent, but many mocked his condition; a fragile psyche crafted by years in the spotlight, deprived of a chance to ever be a child and have what many of us take for granted, the semblance of a normal life. I won't chide the media for being the ravenous, back-biting harpies that they are any further. I'd like to, instead, post something beautiful that a loved one shared with me, and reflect on the many positive things that this beautiful, misguided soul blessed us with. Rest in peace, brother. Memories of the wonderful things you blessed us with will ring forever in our hearts and minds.

Chante'....need I say Moore?

This weekend, I had the pleasure of seeing one of my FAVORITE singers, Mrs. Chante' Moore, thanks to Kyla, who was part of her opening act (thanks sis!)!!! I am a HUGE fan of Mrs. Moore, so I thought I would post this vid of her singing my FAVORITE song (Stevie's Do I Do)! Mrs. Moore was as beautiful, gracious, and magnetic as she is an incredible vocalist...and IMHO, she is ONE OF THE BEST! Thanks!

P.S. Sorry about "Rule" at the end of the vid...*SIGH*
